National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Portuphy has been described as a ‘pathological liar’ for alleging that vigilante groups affiliated to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are responsible for the killing of a police man at Lapaz, a suburb in Accra.
According to former NPP Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West, Benjamin Kofi Ayeh, the NDC Chairman made the wild allegation just to claim the bounty placed on the killers of Constable Daniel Owusu.
His comment comes after Mr. Kofi Portuphy at a news conference in Accra Thursday July 20, 2017 catalogued evidence of what the party has described as ‘government-backed terrorism’.
“Very credible intelligence reaching us has it that a lot of the armed robbery and killing of our hardworking police officers is being done by militant goons associated with the NPP”, the NDC National Chairman alleged.
He said the activities of these violent groups have worn out the police because the groups ultimately have political backing of ‘Godfathers’ in government.
Mr. Portuphy claimed the master plan of the NPP is to “weaken the resolve of the police to function at full throttle” and even a ‘very desperate-looking’ IGP David Asante Appeatu ‘virtually threw up his hands in despair’ at the helplessness of the security forces in addressing the NPP’s violent excesses”.
In a rebuttal, Hon. Ben Ayeh on Accra-based Oman FM expressed shock at the conduct of a hitherto very resemble man like Kofi Portuphy.
He was however not surprised because a desperate man like Portuphy seeking  to retain his position as NDC Chairman will make any frivolous allegation to please his disgruntled members.
The former Upper Denkyira West MP challenged him to volunteer the so-called information he has to the police to ensure the two armed men who shot the police officer are brought to book.
Hon. Ben Ayeh charged Mr. Portuphy to back his allegation with evidence if he wants Ghanaians to take him serious.
