The National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak has said that President Akufo-Addo’s administration has done virtually nothing to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians one year into office.
According to the MP, Akufo-Addo’s State of the Nation’s Address to parliament was just a repetition of his 2016 campaign promises.
Sharing his reaction with Accra-based Citi FM, the minority Chief Whip said a kindergarten kid when given same resources handed over to Akufo-Addo can deliver better than the NPP.
“One year down the lane the president is still telling us things he in turns to do, where is the one village one dam? We all heard him saw he’s now going to do it. This was said in last year”, he said. The NDC MP who was clearly not inspired in his conversation insisted that Akufo-Addo’s 2018 address was nothing but a mere repetition of promises.
“Akufo-Addo talked about discussions, discussions, discussions. One year into power you’re still talking about discussions,” the MP said. Alhaji Muntaka alleged that the NPP government is simply diverting Ghana Education Trust Fund (GET FUND), to pay teacher and nursing trainee allowances.
“They are using GET Fund money to pay teachers. If governance was all about then even a class one chap can easily do that, GET Fund money was supposed to be used to build class room blocks and not to pay teachers” he said.
President Akufo-Addo per his constitutional mandate on Thursday, February 8, 2018 presented his State Of the Nations Address to Parliament. However, some Minority Members of Parliament believe the president’s address does not capture the reality on the ground.

  1. A lot of campaign promises were made by the npp during the 2016 election. Fortunately, the party was given the mandate by Ghanaian voters to govern this country so as to carry out their programmes. On the back of all these was their persistent call that the country finances was not good as the economic indicators then reflected that. The country’s call for an IMF programme and assistance by the previous govt testified to the hopelessness of the economy. One year into the programme, the npp took over and in order to carry out their promises set to work to get the economy in the right direction while fully adhering to the IMF rules. It is worthy to note that in one year, the economy has stopped its downward trend and in fact its indicators have shown massive positve upturn. Within the limited gains that have occurred, payments of outstanding arrears of teachers salaries, nurses allowances, health insurances (more than 50%) have been effected. Also, mandatory statutory payments to institutions like district assemblies, Getfund, schorlarship secretariat are very current. In the midst of this, this present govt has undertaken one of the ambitious programmes this country has on its calendar, the free SHS. This was one of its political pledges it made to its countryfolks. The npp has a four year mandate to execute its campaign promises and I dare say, it has started well. The assertion, therefore, by Hon Muntaka that the govt has renegade on its promises is preposterous and to say the least uninformed and dishonest. And, if on the bases of what he alleges, he is proclaiming the president’s achievements as that of a kindergarten kid, then he needs to do a self introspection. The fact that the one district one dam has not come on board presently does not mean the govt has failed and therefore must be taken to the cleaners. It has three more years to go and if in one year there has been this massive transformation under this IMF programme with its harsh conditions , don’t you think this govt will deliver in subsequent years.I have deliberately left out figures of the relevant economic indicators as these usually mean nothing to some of our ndc folks. Please think aloud.
