New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Youth Organiser hopeful, Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi, says he is well qualified to lead the party’s youth wing and believes his experience across various levels of the party has prepared him for the role.
Mr Kumi said his involvement in the NPP predates his position as a polling station executive, noting that he deliberately served in that position to gain a deeper understanding of its structures and operations.
“I am more than qualified to run for National Youth Organiser. Even before I became a polling station executive, I was one of the national communication officers of the party. I did that for me to understand the party better,” he said.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, he said he has also gone through the ranks of the Tertiary Students Confederacy Network (TESCON), which he believes has broadened his experience in youth mobilisation and party organisation.
Mr Kumi acknowledged that all the candidates contesting the position are qualified but said each aspirant brings a different vision and approach to the role.
“All of us contesting are qualified, but everyone has their vision. I also want to have a fair race so that at the end of the day I will be named winner,” he stated.
He expressed confidence in the strength of his campaign, saying there is growing momentum behind his bid as he engages delegates across the country.
“I know this is the doing of the Lord. There is more momentum behind my campaign. It’s the delegates we are speaking to,” he said.
According to Mr Kumi, his ability to confront difficult issues and his courage are among the qualities that make him suitable for the position.
“God has gifted me the ability to confront issues. I have the courage,” he stated.
He said he has conducted research into the reasons behind the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections and gathered what he believes are solutions to the challenges confronting the party.
“My vision is to make the party more attractive than what it is today, and the youth is our target. They are the present and future of the party,” he said.
Mr Kumi stressed the importance of making young members feel included in the party’s activities, arguing that a well-organised youth wing would strengthen the NPP’s chances of returning to power.
“The youth need to have a sense of belonging. If we organise ourselves well in the party, it will lead us to victory,” he stated.
He also pledged to work towards ensuring that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia becomes President in 2028 while helping the party increase its parliamentary representation.
“Bawumia must be President in 2028, and as National Youth Organiser, I will do what it takes. We have the systems to make it easier for Bawumia and also make more NPP MPs get into Parliament,” he said.
Mr Kumi said he has so far toured 11 regions as part of his campaign and expressed confidence that the NPP can achieve its electoral objectives if it adopts the right strategy.
“I have toured 11 regions so far, and I must say we can do it. We will use a strategy that the NDC will not understand,” he stated.
He added that effective youth organisation requires a strong presence at the grassroots and meaningful engagement with party members.
“As Youth Organiser, you have to have contacts on the ground and connect with the people,” Mr Kumi said.
