The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Western North Region says it is setting its sights on winning all nine parliamentary seats in the region in the 2028 general elections.
The party currently holds eight of the region’s nine constituencies, with the Suaman seat remaining under the control of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The NDC’s regional chairman, Michael Aidoo, popularly known as Big Aidoo, who is also a member of the Council of State, made the declaration during a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a new NDC regional party office at Sefwi Wiawso.
The Western North Region has nine constituencies. Before the 2024 elections, the NPP held three seats — Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, Sefwi Wiawso and Sefwi Akontombra, while the NDC controlled the remaining six.
The 2024 election, however, saw a significant shift in the region, with the NDC increasing its tally to eight seats and the NPP retaining only Suaman.
Mr Aidoo attributed the party’s performance to what he described as its strong presence and the government’s development projects in the region, arguing that the NDC is well positioned to make a clean sweep in 2028.
He said the party’s immediate target was the Suaman constituency, which he described as the final seat standing between the NDC and complete parliamentary dominance in the region.
The regional chairman also issued a strong warning to the NPP’s incumbent MP for Suaman, suggesting that the NDC was determined to unseat him in the next election.
Meanwhile, the Dean of Municipal and District Chief Executives and District Chief Executive for Akontombra, Joseph Appiah, popularly known as Ammonia, clarified that the new regional party office is being funded by the NDC in the region and not by government.
He said the project, expected to be completed next year, will provide the party with a permanent base for its activities, replacing its current rented office.
