Lead counsel for former National Signals Bureau Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene has welcomed the Accra High Court’s decision to grant the defence an extra day to cross-examine a prosecution witness.
According to Samuel Atta Akyea, he had prepared about 60 questions for the fourth prosecution witness but would trim them to around 40 to fit the court’s three-hour limit.
Speaking to the media after Tuesday’s proceedings, he said the additional day was necessary because some areas of the witness’ testimony had not yet been covered.
“Very much so, because it is not right to truncate cross-examination when some areas have not been covered. We have some residual but consequential areas for the cover,” he said.
Atta Akyea added that the defence would focus on the most consequential parts of the witness’s evidence when questioning resumes.
The court adjourned the trial to 2 September 2026 for the cross-examination to continue.
The witness, an investigator with the Economic and Organised Crime Office, has been testifying about the investigation into alleged financial wrongdoing involving Adu-Boahene and other accused persons in connection with a cybersecurity procurement arrangement at the National Signals Bureau. Adu-Boahene and his co-accused have denied the charges.
