Acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Freddy Blay says he will not disclose the source of funding for the purchase of 275 buses he has proposed to acquire for the party.

According to him, he is dealing with a financial institution that does not allow him to reveal their identity until the deal is sealed completely.

He indicated that he has, through a facility, acquired 275 buses for the 275 constituencies of the NPP in the country.

Per his proposition, Constituency Chairmen and Secretaries are to co-sign for each constituency.

The buses, when delivered, will be run commercially by any bus operator in the country, a process he said they were currently deliberating.

“Money is shy, those who deal with you over money and those financing, you in one way or the other, don’t want you to disclose them and make so much noise. The financial institution is ready to help”, he said.

“Don’t forget that institutions have other clients too who will not be happy when you reveal who they are, till the contract is fully done. So, for one reason or the other, we don’t want to do any disclosures”, he added.

With the elections barely two months away, the move to purchase buses has been heavily criticised by some political commentators and the Ghana Integrity Initiative, describing it as vote-buying.

The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) has since appealed the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) to probe Mr Blay.

Speaking exclusively in an interview with Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Friday, Mr Blay downplayed the concerns that the move is an attempt to influence delegates to vote for him as Chairman of NPP.

According to him, the intentions are in the best interest of the NPP even at the grassroots level, adding that he is only doing will help to resource the party.

“Ghanaians are interested in parties being run well. Has anybody bothered to know what we have been doing in the past, how we have been financing the party, how we go for conferences,” he asked.

“Why is it that this time around that we are going for elections, all of a sudden you say you want to do this and people say they want to know where you intend to get the money”, he asked further.
