The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has said the conduct of the exhibited by the Minority leader over the AMERI Deal is hypocritical.
According to him, Haruna Iddrisu as a lawyer must have fair appreciation of parliamentary proceedings and not allow his colleagues to stage a walk-out of Parliament.
Mr. Antwi Boasiako, affectionately called Chairman Wontumi was reacting to Minority’s threat to reject any attempt by the Speaker Prof. Mike Oquaye to undermine parliamentary oversight.
The threat comes after the Minority has stormed out of parliamentary proceedings Tuesday August 1, 2017 over the controversial Ameri deal.
The boycott followed unsuccessful attempts to stop the Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa K.T Hammond from moving a motion in Parliament seeking the review of the deal.
According to a 17-member committee put together by the Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko, there are technical, financial and legal lapses in the $510 million power contract signed between Ameri Energy and the Ghana government under former President John Mahama.
But to Chairman Wontumi, the minority in parliament are portraying characters which are ‘unparliamentary’ and must be condemned by all.
Chairman Wontumi noted that the strategy the minority is adapting recently in parliament to distract proceeding is “needless”.
“They are making needless press conferences in parliament. I am very shocked and surprised. Haruna Iddrisu was a fine gentleman so why is he allowing his people to misbehave like school children.
“I am very much disappointed in Haruna Iddrisu, he is a very big hypocrite. Haruna is an honorable member of parliament and his behavior must reflect his status” he noted on Accra based Neat fm.
