Former Division One League Board chairman, Ntow Fianko has disclosed in an interview that officials of Accra Great Olympics in 2010, attempted to bribe him and other club officials to stand for an 18-club league when they were on their way to relegation.
Mr. Fianko who says he has been bewildered by the posture of Olympics in holding the 2017/18 Ghana Premier League season to ransom with a court injunction says Olympics are undeserving of Ghanaians’ attention because that was their stock in trade.
Olympics, after placing an interlocutory injunction on the start of the Ghana Premier League tabled a proposal for an 18-club league which the Executive Committee of the GFA rejected.
The news has taken many aback, especially when Olympics claim they were pursuing a genuine cause.
“Six to eight years ago, when Great Olympics were relegated to the Division One League, they attempted to bribe Takyi Arhin, J.Y Appiah and myself with 10 million old cedis to vote for an 18-club league so that Olympics will remain in the Premier League but we refused”, Mr. Fianko said.
“They told us they had finished with the various RFA Chairmen so it was left with us to accept.
Olympics had filed an application for an interlocutory injunction on the Ghana Premier League saying they have not accepted their relegation status despite finishing 14th on the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League table.
The earlier application was dismissed by an Accra High Court but the club filed another injunction which is currently in force.
