Ghana’s Minister of Information designate, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, has said that financial clearance has been given for 145,000 vacancies for employment as it continues with its job-creation initiatives.

The breakdown of the clearance includes 24,033 health workers; over 9500 educational workers; 4000 police recruits;  2,700 agriculture extension officers; 1,049 local government; 20,000 afforestation workers; 100,000 NABCO trainees; and 3,527 other security personnel.

The minister who was addressing journalists in Accra on Tuesday said the government will continue with the necessary steps in its job-creation initiatives in both the private and public sectors.

Touching on the status of “one district one factory (1D1F)” initiative, Mr Oppong Nkrumah told journalists that 18 factories have so far been accredited whilst 50 more are to be accredited before the year ends.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the NPP’s commitment is on page 43 of the party’s manifesto and it states in collaboration with the private sector, the NPP will implement the One District One Factory initiative”, The Ofoase-Ayeribi MP said to buttress his point on 1D1F.

On the issue of the roadmap to lifting the ban on illegal mining, the secretary of Inter-ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, Charles Bissue, said validation is ongoing but 700 concessions remain unclaimed and may be given out to others.

Although Mr Bissue could not tell the exact date the ban on small-scale mining will be lifted, he said the committee is following the roadmap and hopes it will be soon.
