Chief Executive Officer of Dormaa based Aduana Stars, Albert Yaya Commey has attributed the poor performance of Ghanaian clubs in Africa to the late start of the Ghana Premier League.

Ghanaian clubs for the past years have failed to excel in the competition.

Premier League Champions, Wa All Stars who are representing the country in the CAF Champions League were defeated by 3:1 by Al Ahli Tripoli on Sunday at the Tamale Sports Stadium.

MTN FA Cup winners, Bechem United won narrowly against MC Alger at the Accra Sports Stadium by 2:1 in the CAF Confederations Cup.

However, Albert Commey who serves as a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) insisted many factors are responsible for this recent development and the topmost factor is the late start of the League.

“A lot of factors cause the poor performance of our clubs that represent the nation in Africa and one of the key factors is the failure to start the league at the appropriate time due to court issues and others which I believe we should all put our shoulders to the wheel to help remedy it… So that our clubs can have adequate preparations towards those CAF Competitions to enable them do well in Africa,” he said.

WA All Stars and Bechem United are expected to depart from the country on Thursday.
