Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mark Addo, says the association is making progress in expanding the broadcast and commercial reach of the Ghana Premier League, revealing that about 68 matches were produced live during the previous season.
Speaking to the media after the GFA’s 32nd Ordinary Congress on Thursday, Mr Addo said the league also benefited from hundreds of additional delayed-game productions, highlighting the growing emphasis being placed on television coverage as part of the GFA’s efforts to increase the value and visibility of the competition.
“Last year we produced about 68 live games and hundreds of other delayed games,” he said.
According to Mr Addo, broadcasting is an important component of the GFA’s wider commercial strategy, particularly as the association seeks to increase the league’s attractiveness to sponsors and media partners.
He revealed that discussions around media rights and collaborations with other television stations are ongoing and described the potential value of the work as substantial.
“Part of the work that we are doing now in terms of even the media rights, and then the other TV stations that we’re picking up is quite substantial.”
The GFA vice president further said the absence of a headline sponsor should not be interpreted as a lack of commercial activity around the Premier League.
Instead, he pointed to broadcasting and other commercial arrangements as areas where the association is already working to generate value for clubs.
The development comes as the GFA introduces a new financial package under which each Premier League club will receive GH¢1 million before the start of the season.
Mr Addo believes the combination of direct club support, increased television exposure and continued sponsorship efforts can help strengthen the commercial foundation of the Ghana Premier League.
Meanwhile, the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to kick off on September 5.
