Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey is on the verge of joining Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab after arriving in Riyadh to complete his move.
The 33-year-old is expected to undergo a mandatory medical examination before signing a one-year contract with the club.
Partey is set to join Al Shabab as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Spanish side Villarreal, where he spent the 2025/26 season.
The move will mark another chapter in the midfielder’s career, having previously played for Atletico Madrid and Arsenal.
During his time at Arsenal, Partey made 130 appearances and scored nine goals before leaving the North London club in 2025.
He subsequently joined Villarreal on a free transfer and made 25 appearances in all competitions during his only season in Spain.
Partey remains an important member of the Ghana national team and featured for the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
He played in three matches as Ghana reached the Round of 32 before their campaign came to an end.
A move to Al Shabab would allow Partey to continue playing at a competitive level as Ghana prepare for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, which is due to begin in September.
The Black Stars missed the previous AFCON tournament and will be hoping to secure qualification for the next edition, with Partey expected to provide experience and leadership to the team.
