The death toll of Saturday night gas explosion at Atomic Junction near Madina in Accra has risen to seven.

Out of the 132 injured, 64 have been discharged and 68 still on admission at the 37 Military hospital.

The fire which was reported to have started at about 7:pm on Saturday night also caught an adjacent filling station and setting ablaze many vehicles at a nearby taxi and commercial buses hub.

40 persons injured in the inferno at the Atomic junction and two are in a very critical condition.

Public Relations Officer o f the Ghana National Fire Service, Prince Billy Anaglatey confirmed this to Adom News Sunday.

he also added that there is gas in one of the contains which is still boiling that can explode but they are doing their best to prevent it from exploding.

However, the Police who have been at the site of the explosion, MANSCO Gas Filling Station, have cordoned off the road. Traffic on the main Accra Central and NI Highway to Aburi road has been diverted.

Meanwhile, the 37 Military Hospital is offering free medical care to those injured.

Officer in charge of the hospital, Brigadier General Sakah confirmed that one of them had 80 percent of his body burnt.

For now, he said they are taking care of them for free hoping government will soon help them acquire more treatment kits to take care of more of them.

Also, Deputy Health Minister, Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu was also at the 37 hospital for first hand information on the state of the injured.

He confirmed that government will take care of the bills of all the injured and called on those injured but yet to visit the hospital to do immediately at the nearest health facility for free treatment.

Mr. Aboagye Gyedu added that government will do all it could to give the deceased a befitting burial.

  1. Gas stations must not be sited in busy and public places………..Its should be outskirt of every town….Gas explosions usually leads to mass number of destruction..We thank God for the life of the residents in the area.And those gone, RIP.
