The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has directed the management of Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) to immediately reverse its decision to temporarily suspend the employment contracts of all staff following severe flood damage to the company’s Accra facility.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, July 1, the Ministry said it had taken a “very strong view” of the circular issued by GDCL announcing the suspension effective the same day.
“The Ministry takes a very strong view of the directive and immediately instructs management to reverse that decision. All GDCL staff are to disregard the directive,” the statement said.
The directive comes after GDCL management announced the temporary suspension of contracts, citing extensive damage caused by the June 29 floods, which disrupted operations and affected tenant businesses at the technology hub.
The Ministry expressed solidarity with the affected staff.
“At a time when staff have been personally affected by the June 29 floods, the Ministry stands with its staff and the staff of all our agencies,” the statement added.
The Ministry has also invited GDCL management to a meeting on Wednesday, July 2, to discuss the matter.
This follows a visit by the Sector Minister, Samuel Nartey George, to the centre on June 30 to assess the damage caused by the floods.

The development comes after the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GDCL, Christine Adwoa Agyapomaa Ansong, had defended the temporary suspension, explaining that it was necessitated by the unsafe conditions and the company’s inability to generate revenue.
She had assured staff that the move did not amount to dismissals and that they would be recalled once the facility is restored.
The Ministry’s swift intervention has brought some relief to the affected workers as recovery efforts at the centre continue.
