The aftermath of the fire outbreak at the Accra Central Police Barracks has brought renewed attention to the deteriorating state of some police accommodation facilities in the country.

The fire, which broke out on Wednesday night, triggered an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service, with personnel working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining structures.

The Ghana Police Service later confirmed that no casualties were recorded and that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident.

Following the fire, visuals circulating on social media showed sections of the barracks with damaged roofing, charred structures, and household belongings scattered across the affected area.

Goods of local traders who operate near the barracks were also not spared as affected persons count their losses.

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board and the Accra Regional Police Commander, visited the scene shortly after the outbreak to assess the situation and provide support to affected personnel.

Although authorities are yet to establish the cause of the fire, the incident has reignited calls for improved infrastructure and regular maintenance of police barracks across the country.
