The District Chief Executive for Amansie Central, Emmanuel Obeng, has appealed to the central government to tar roads leading to the proposed 24-hour economy model market at Mile Nine near Jacobu in the Ashanti Region, citing the need for improved access to boost patronage and revenue generation.
The appeal was made during a sod-cutting ceremony to officially commence construction works on the market, which was attended by the DCE and several opinion leaders in the district.
Speaking to Adom News correspondent Isaac K. Normanyo, Mr. Obeng disclosed that plans are underway to integrate a Women Development Bank into the 24-hour market project to support traders and strengthen local economic activities.
He further cautioned the contractor on the project to strictly adhere to the construction timeline, warning that failure to meet deadlines could result in the contract being reassigned.
In the interim, the DCE said the assembly would deploy “drip machines” to improve the condition of the roads and make them motorable while awaiting support under the central government’s major roads programme.
Some residents of Mile Nine expressed optimism about the project, saying it would create jobs and stimulate development in the area.
Others also encouraged traders who currently travel long distances for business to prepare for a new era of round-the-clock trading within the community once the market becomes operational.
