The Twafohene of Sefwi Sayerano, Nana Kwasi Sampa, has confirmed that calm has returned to the community following the arrest of eight police personnel linked to a shooting incident that claimed three lives and injured two others.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the chief confirmed the death of a third victim on Wednesday morning, increasing the number of fatalities from the incident.

He said the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has called for calm and assured residents that a thorough investigation will be conducted to ensure justice is served.

“Calm has returned to the community following the arrest of the eight personnel involved. The IGP has also urged calm and assured that investigations will continue and justice will be served.

“So we are confident that the truth will prevail. There is no reason for any misunderstanding or chaos with the police,” he said.

The incident occurred on Monday when police officers allegedly opened fire during a confrontation in Sefwi Sayerano in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region.

The unrest reportedly started after officers from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Command entered the community to arrest a suspected drug peddler.

Some residents allegedly attempted to resist the arrest, leading to a confrontation during which the police reportedly fired shots.

The Twafohene expressed confidence that investigations will uncover the truth and urged residents to remain calm and peaceful as the process continues.
