The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, Joseph Awal, says the municipality is recording significant infrastructure gains despite ongoing challenges caused by a lingering conflict.
Speaking to Adom News on the sidelines of the 9th Assembly meeting, Mr Awal said the Assembly has maintained strong momentum in development projects since 2025, with about 95 per cent of ongoing works progressing as planned.
He mentioned key interventions, including the construction of classroom blocks, CHPS compounds and other social amenities aimed at improving access to basic services and enhancing living standards.
According to the MCE, funds allocated for government-backed projects have been fully utilised.

He noted that while several projects have been completed, others are at various stages of implementation, reflecting the Assembly’s commitment to sustaining development in the municipality.
However, Mr Awal cautioned that the recurring conflict continues to affect planning and delay some development activities.
He explained that insecurity disrupts coordination, movement and community engagement, which are critical to effective project delivery and long-term investment.
Despite the challenges, he assured residents that government, in collaboration with the Assembly, will continue to implement peace-building and stabilisation measures to create an environment conducive to development.
“Development cannot thrive without peace, and we are urging all stakeholders to support efforts aimed at maintaining calm and stability,” he said.

The MCE also raised concerns over revenue shortfalls in the municipality, attributing the situation to weak tax collection systems and the impact of the prolonged conflict on revenue mobilisation.
He said the Assembly plans to strengthen its revenue base by improving collection mechanisms and making effective use of zonal councils to streamline and monitor revenue operations.
Mr Awal urged residents to uphold peace and cooperation, stressing that Nkwanta South remains a strategic gateway whose stability is essential to the broader development agenda of the Oti Region.
