An outpouring of grief has flooded social media following the death of Ghanaian Guinness World Record holder, celebrated visual artist, poet and cultural advocate Sharon Dede Padi, popularly known as Padiki.
Although the cause of her death is not immediately known, news of her passing broke on the evening of Monday, July 7, 2026.
She was 50 years old, having celebrated her golden jubilee birthday just a few days before her death.
Friends, colleagues, public figures and admirers have taken to social media to share heartfelt tributes, describing her as a gifted artist, cultural icon and an inspiration to many.
Padiki was widely recognised for her creative works and contributions to Ghana’s arts and cultural landscape, with many celebrating her passion for promoting Ghanaian heritage.
Others expressed disbelief, considering that Padiki was recently unveiled as the face of the Odwira Festival scheduled for September.
Several public figures also joined in mourning the late artist.
A close associate who worked with Padiki during her Guinness World Record attempt recounted the privilege of managing her media engagements and witnessing her dedication firsthand.

Born Sharon Dede Padi, Padiki was the founder of the Padiki Art Gallery and was widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most innovative contemporary visual artists.
She devoted much of her career to promoting Ghanaian culture through art, mentoring young creatives and championing the use of visual arts as a powerful tool for storytelling, cultural preservation and women’s empowerment.
Her passing marks a significant loss to Ghana’s creative arts community, with many describing her legacy as one that will continue to inspire generations of artists.
