Book Aid International as part of an annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and RELX has donated over two thousand books to the Eastern Regional Children’s Library in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

The UK-Based Charity Organization made the donation during the launch of the Children’s Corner, a platform for children to develop, improve their reading habit and to advance in knowledge acquisition in the region.

Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Library Authority (GLA) Mr. Hayford Siaw expressed appreciation to Book Aid for fulfilling a major challenge of GLA which is the need for more children’s book.

“This donation will go a long way to support the objective of this year’s reading project which is to make our library spaces more conducive and attractive for young people. I also thank our staff and partners for their tremendous contributions, commitment, dedication and enthusiasm towards the job,” he said.

The Eastern Regional Librarian, Mr. Evans Korletey-Tene added the elevation and transformation of the library will attract more students during their leisure, vacation and also help to improve literacy in the area.

The Educational Director of New Juabeng, Mavis Yirenkyi commended GLA for establishing a children’s corner library in the region to empower young children.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of Book Aid International, Ms. Allison Tweed, advised parents to help improve literacy in children by reading with them, listening to them read and taking them to the library or providing books at home.

Representative from United Kingdom RELX Team, Ms. Yvonne Phillips pledged their contious support to the community through painting, shelving books in the library and teach the children.
