A five-member committee tasked with recommending a successor to Carlos Queiroz as Ghana head coach is expected to submit its report to the Sports Ministry today, October 9.
The committee was established last week following a meeting between the Ministry of Sports and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after Queiroz stepped down from his position as Black Stars coach.
The Portuguese manager resigned after Ghana suffered consecutive defeats in their opening two matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars lost 2-0 away to Ivory Coast before suffering a 4-2 defeat against The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Those results have left Ghana bottom of Group C without a point from two matches, increasing the pressure on the team to revive its qualification hopes.
The committee is chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe and includes former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, Faisal Chibsah and Agbesi Dzakpasu.
Following the submission of the report, the Sports Ministry and the GFA are expected to deliberate on the recommendations before agreeing on a candidate to replace Queiroz.
Meanwhile, reports in the local media suggest Ghana could appoint an interim coach for their November doubleheader against Somalia before naming a substantive head coach.
Godwin Attram and Ibrahim Tanko have been mentioned as leading candidates for the interim position, although no appointment has been officially confirmed.
The two matches against Somalia, scheduled to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium, will offer Ghana an opportunity to get their qualifying campaign back on track.
The Black Stars are seeking to avoid another major disappointment after missing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, their first absence from the tournament in more than two decades.
With Ghana yet to secure a point in the 2027 qualifiers, the appointment of a new technical leadership team is expected to be an important step in the country’s efforts to secure a place at the next tournament.
