Nigerian singer Banky W has revealed that he is now an ordained pastor in the United States, a new role he says emerged from a period of personal reflection following his unsuccessful election bid in 2023.

The musician, born Olubankole Wellington, made the revelation in a social media post reflecting on how his faith and career have evolved over the past year.

Banky W said losing the election left him heartbroken and prompted him to seek God’s direction on what to do next, including whether to focus on politics, entertainment, business or ministry.

He said he eventually came to understand that these pursuits did not have to be mutually exclusive, describing the development as an expansion of his purpose rather than a departure from his existing careers.

“I was asking God to choose between things He had never asked me to separate,” he wrote, adding that he had since embraced roles that allow him to combine his interests in entertainment, business, education and ministry.

Banky W disclosed that he now serves as an Associate Pastor and Global Ambassador at Union Church, while also working as a teacher and leader at Union College in the United States.

Despite the new pastoral responsibility, Banky W said he would continue pursuing his work in music, film and business, assuring followers that more projects were in the pipeline.

Reflecting on his failed election bid, he said the experience had helped him recognise that the direction of his life could extend beyond the plans he had originally made for himself.

“The election didn’t go the way I hoped. But God’s plans for my life are bigger than the plans I had for myself,” he said.
