The Ghana Football Association (GFA) says its committee tasked with finding a new Black Stars head coach will continue its work through November 2026, with a final recommendation to follow.
The five-member committee was initially expected to submit its recommendations on Friday, 9 October, following the departure of Carlos Queiroz on 1 October after Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
However, in a statement released on Friday, the GFA said the committee had recommended a structured recruitment process to identify the most suitable candidate to lead the senior national team.
The evaluation, shortlisting and interviewing of candidates will continue throughout October and November before the committee submits its final recommendation.
The process will include background checks, consultations with key football stakeholders and technical experts, as well as assessments of candidates’ technical abilities, leadership qualities, cultural fit and high-performance experience.
The committee is chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe and includes former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe, football administrator Agbesi Dzakpasu and high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah.
The recruitment exercise follows Ghana’s poor start to their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign, with consecutive defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia leaving the Black Stars bottom of Group C without a point.
An interim technical team will oversee the Black Stars during the November international window while the search committee continues its work.
The GFA has also extended the application deadline for the vacant head coach position to 15 October 2026, giving interested candidates additional time to submit their applications.
Ghana will face Somalia in a double-header in November as they seek to revive their qualification campaign and secure a place at the 2027 AFCON, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
