Ghanaian dancehall act, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, aka Shatta Wale, says American star, Beyoncé recognised him because of the local champion tag on him.
According to him, people who teased him consistently for being a local champion indirectly paved the way for him to collaborate with the wife of rapper Jay Z.

He said this on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM on Friday when talking about his recent involvement in the soundtrack album for the latest Disney ‘Lion King’ movie.

“She needed African champions and she needed a guy like me to make the movie track and the whole album. Everything that has happened I cherish it though some are painful. Some [negative] things would come but don’t see them as bad. If you don’t take it like that, you won’t see your grace…” Shatta told Andy Dosty.
Shatta Wale dedicated his achievement to all Ghanaian musicians and urged them to never stop working hard.
