It was only last year when the world’s largest social networking site Facebook was accused of a massive data breach. So, in case you were wondering how much does the social media giant already know about your personal life, let us tell you–it just might know when you are having sex.

A recent study revealed that period tracker applications used by millions of women across the globe to track their menstrual cycles had been sharing intimate details with Facebook and other third-party services.

As per a report by a media outlet and UK-based advocacy group Privacy International, period tracker apps -MIA Fem and Maya, had been sharing private details like contraceptives used, physical health and of course when the user got intimate.

Menstrual tracking apps are used by women all around the globe to manage their monthly cycle and know about the ovulation period. To provide in-depth information, the app makes use of the user’s personal information.

Both Maya and MIA Fem shared private information of the app users to Facebook through the social networking giant’s Software Development Kit, which helps the website to show advertisements to the target audience.

The report also revealed that both applications started sharing the information with the social media giant even before the user agreed to their privacy policies.

In light of the recent findings, Facebook has stated that it is in touch with Privacy International to discuss possible violations of its terms of service.

Meanwhile, Plackal Tech, the parent company of India-based app Maya has denied any privacy breaches.
