The Commanding Officer of the Ghana Armed Forces’ 48 Engineer Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Frank Osei Amponsah, says military personnel have cleared temporary structures blocking access routes to enable the Ghana National Fire Service to tackle the fire at the Kofikrom–Avenor Industrial Area.
The blaze has destroyed several wooden structures, as well as pipes and water storage tanks belonging to the Duraplast factory.
Speaking to Adom News at the scene, Lieutenant Colonel Amponsah said the military deployed equipment and personnel to support firefighters, whose operations were hampered by poor access.

“On our arrival here, the major challenge we identified was accessibility for the fire tenders,” he said.
He explained that personnel cleared temporary structures along the access road, allowing fire engines to move closer to the affected areas.
According to him, the intervention helped firefighters bring sections of the blaze under control.
However, the fire was spreading towards another part of the site, requiring further clearance to support firefighting operations.
Responding to reports that a woman and a child had been affected, Lieutenant Colonel Amponsah said his team received similar information upon arrival.

He could not confirm their condition or whether they were receiving hospital treatment, as they had already been evacuated.
“For now, we moved in at a time when those people had been evacuated, so I can’t speak to it,” he said.
