A Circuit Court in Adenta has sentenced a 22-year-old motor mechanic and Bolt driver to 25 years in prison for robbing a beautician at Mantey Farms, Adenta.

Emmanuel Kofi Mensah pleaded guilty to robbery and was convicted on his own plea by the court, presided over by Mrs Angela Attachie.

The court heard that Mensah attacked Yvonne Dzane Dzifa with a cutlass after she hired his Bolt services from Madina Zongo Junction to Adenta on September 23, 2026.

According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, Mensah failed to stop at Dzifa’s destination at Adenta Barrier, locked the vehicle’s doors, and drove towards the Adenta-Dodowa road.

He later stopped at Mantey Farms, where he demanded Dzifa’s handbag and other belongings. When she resisted, Mensah allegedly pulled out a cutlass, dragged her from the vehicle, and repeatedly struck her in an attempt to force her to surrender the bag.

The prosecution said Mensah eventually slashed Dzifa’s left wrist and little finger before taking her bag, which contained an iPhone 17 Pro Max valued at GH¢18,000, an iPhone 12 valued at GH¢3,500, GH¢3,200 cash, and other personal belongings.

Mensah subsequently called an accomplice, who arrived on a motorbike, the court heard.

Dzifa managed to take a backpack from the front seat of the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush. Mensah and the accomplice pursued her with the cutlass but failed to retrieve the backpack.

She later scaled the fence wall of a nearby house and remained there until the following morning, when the landlord alerted the Police.

The Police rescued her and found a tablet and mini-laptop believed to be stolen property in the backpack.

Dzifa, who had sustained a deep cutlass wound to her wrist and little finger and bruises over her body, was treated at Pantang Government Hospital and discharged.

The prosecution said Mensah was arrested on September 24 after he took the iPhone 17 Pro Max to an Apple shop at Madina Zongo Junction to sell it.

The shop owner reportedly recognised Dzifa’s picture on the phone, suspected it was stolen, and caused Mensah’s arrest.

Police found the cutlass allegedly used in the attack concealed in his shorts.

Mensah admitted the offence in his caution statement and pleaded for forgiveness.

The prosecution said Mensah had claimed the Bolt vehicle belonged to a Nigerian friend but had failed to identify him. Efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest the accomplice.
