The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has intensified efforts to educate the public on the importance of purchasing standardized and certified products, with a sensitization exercise held at the Kaneshie Market in Accra.

The exercise focused particularly on mattresses, educating traders, drivers, and other members of the public on how to identify mattresses that meet the required standards and are safe and suitable for use.

Participants were taken through some of the key features to look out for when purchasing a mattress.

They were also encouraged to ask the necessary questions to ensure that the products they buy have been properly certified and meet the standards set by the Ghana Standards Authority.

The initiative forms part of the GSA’s broader efforts to empower consumers with the knowledge needed to make informed purchasing decisions and protect themselves from substandard products.

Speaking to the media after the exercise, Head of Compliance Monitoring for the Greater Accra Region, Margaret Fidelia Awumee, explained that the sensitization forms part of efforts by the Authority to educate the public on standards and promote compliance among businesses and traders.

She urged consumers to be more vigilant when purchasing mattresses and other products, emphasizing the need to verify that such products meet the appropriate standards before making a purchase.

Some traders at the Kaneshie Market who participated in the exercise also shared their experiences with the news team, noting the importance of the education in helping them better understand the standards and requirements for mattresses sold on the market.

The GSA says continued public education remains essential in ensuring that consumers are equipped with the information needed to identify quality products and make safer choices.
