The two, belonging to the MTTD unit of the police service, were shot dead by unknown assailants

A family member of Sergeant Michael Gyamasi has given a sad account of how the police officer was murdered in cold blood, Wednesday.

The family member, who rushed to the scene when he heard the gunshot, said the assailant ensured his brother was dead before leaving the scene.

Sgt Gyamasi and his colleague, Lance Corporal Awal Mohammed, both attached to the Motor, Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service at Kasoa met their untimely deaths while on duty on the Kasoa-Winneba highway.

According to reports, the suspects, said to be driving an unregistered Toyota Camry vehicle recklessly, shot the unarmed policemen after refusing to stop when the security officers signaled them to do so.

The Police reported that Sgt Gyamasi died on the spot, while L/Corporal Mohammed was rushed to the Police Hospital in Accra in critical condition, where he was also pronounced dead.

But, family members of Sgt Gyamasi on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Thursday, suspect contract killing.

His sister explained that, the deceased, who was unarmed, received multiple gunshots, including a shot in the head.

What gives more credence to their suspicion, she noted, was that, when the deceased even rushed into a nearby grocery shop after being shot to take cover, the assailant followed and shot him twice to ensure he was indeed dead.

Sgt Gyamasi’s family wants his killers prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
