A police inspector has been accused of allegedly sexually abusing his biological teenage daughter, impregnating her and terminating the pregnancy.
The disturbing allegations were made by the victim’s mother during an emotional interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, where she narrated what she described as years of abuse her daughter suffered while living with her father in Garu in the Upper East Region.
According to the heartbroken mother, her daughter moved in with the father at the age of 10 after he promised to take care of her.
“My daughter’s grandmother called me to bring her, so I took her to Agona. Later, she called again and said her son had returned and wanted to take the child with him,” she said.
The woman explained that the suspect had not been actively involved in the child’s life before then.
“He saw my daughter when she was about 18 months old when I visited him in the North. After that, he never met her again and wasn’t taking care of her,” she recounted.
She added that although she initially resisted the idea, she eventually agreed after the father assured her he would care for the child properly.
According to her, she remained in regular contact with her daughter over the phone but gradually noticed a worrying change in her behaviour.
“We used to talk on the phone, but I realised my daughter wasn’t herself. Anytime I asked her what was wrong, she would say she was okay,” she said.
The mother explained that after about four years of her daughter staying in Garu, she travelled there to visit her and immediately sensed something was wrong.
“She insisted on coming back with me, but she wouldn’t tell me the reason,” she narrated.
However, she alleged that the father strongly opposed the idea and threatened to disown the girl if she left.
“When I told the father, he vowed that he would cut her off and disown her from his children if I took her away, so I left her there,” she said.
The woman said the situation became more troubling after the child later returned to Agona.
“One day, her teacher called me and said I should leave whatever I was doing and come because something seemed wrong with my child. She had become dull in school and anytime they asked her what the problem was, she would just cry without saying anything,” she recounted.
According to the mother, she later received a late-night, which left her troubled and couldn’t sleep throughout the night, hence decided to visit her daughter first thing the next morning.
“The caller told me my daughter was being chased by her father in the middle of the night because she refused to sleep with him. I travelled to the town and called her father to inform him I was taking her out of town, and he threatened to kill me if I step foot there. I confronted him over what I had heard and he denied the allegation.
“After picking her from school, we went to the Agona Jamasi Police Station to lodge a complaint, and I was giving a medical form to take my daughter to the hospital,” she narrated.
The mother revealed her daughter confirmed she had undergone abortion after her father realised that he had impregnated her, inserting her drug into her vagina that made her bleed profusely.
The act which started on her first arrival in Garu at age 10, according to her continued for over four years.
