The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Ntim Fordjour has criticised a statement attributed to former president John Mahama in which he asked for a rematch with President Nana Akuffo-Addo.

The former president should be told governance is not boxing for him to call for a rematch. Ghanaians gave him the chance and he failed. So how can he call for a rematch with the incumbent president? He should sit at home and support the good works of his successor,” he said.

According to Mr Fordjour, the former president rose through a ministerial position among others till he became a president in 2012 which is a self- actualization stage on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory so what at all is he looking for?

The former president who addressed party delegates in the Nkoranza South constituency during a campaign tour indicated that the 2020 polls will be the final decider between him and President Akufo-Addo.

I am begging President Akufo-Addo to contest in the next polls. In boxing, the first fight is called the title fight. If you win that fight and your opponent wants another one, it is called a rematch. This is similar to what happened in 2012 when I beat Nana-Addo in the polls. In 2016 however, I was defeated. In the 2020 elections, it will be tantamount to a decider in boxing since we have both won the election once, the next poll will determine who the champion really is,” the former president said to those gathered.
