The Asutifi South District Assembly in the Ahafo Region has warned traders who fail to participate in its regular clean-up exercises that they could face legal action.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Benjamin Assabil Donkor, said the Assembly had observed that some traders deliberately ignore the exercises and continue operating their shops while the clean-up activities are underway.
Speaking to Adom News at Hwidiem during a clean-up exercise, Mr Assabil Donkor said such conduct contravenes the Assembly’s sanitation bye-laws.
He warned that, effective immediately, traders who fail to take part in the exercises without justification would be summoned before court to explain their actions.
The DCE said the Assembly would no longer tolerate practices that undermine efforts to improve sanitation and maintain a clean environment in the district.
Meanwhile, the Krontihemaa of Hwidiem, Nana Pokuaa Ama Nyarko, said traditional authorities would also take action against traders who refuse to participate.

She said such individuals would henceforth be summoned to the palace, where the chiefs would take appropriate measures against them.
The Environmental Health Analyst for Asutifi South District, Isaac Bediako Asare, also appealed to residents to support efforts to improve sanitation.
He urged the public to make proper sanitation a daily responsibility, stressing that a clean environment was essential to preventing disease outbreaks in the district.
