Residents and youth groups in Konongo-Odumasi in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region have commended former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Robert Yaw Kwakye, for his role in the construction of the municipality’s first AstroTurf facility.
According to the residents, the facility at Odumasi O.U. has provided a much-needed space for young people and local football clubs to train, compete and develop their skills.
They said the project is particularly significant for the municipality, which has a strong sporting heritage and has produced several athletes who have represented Ghana at both national and international levels.
Among the notable sports personalities associated with the area are former Black Stars players Sulley Muntari and Rabiu Mohammed, as well as athletes Vida Anim and John Amponsah.
The residents believe the AstroTurf will help build on this legacy by giving young talents in the municipality access to better facilities and opportunities to develop their sporting careers.
They described the Odumasi O.U. AstroTurf as one of the leading football facilities in the area and expressed appreciation to the former MCE for contributing to its development.
