Some angry traders at Tamale in the Northern region allegedly turned a sub-chief into a punching bag for ordering their eviction from a piece of land near the Jubilee Park.

Hafiz Mohammed, the chief in charge of entertainment in the area is said to have led a team of armed soldiers again to evict the traders who had returned to the place after they were asked to relocate to another place.

The new trading centre was given to the traders by the three prominent Chiefs – Bug- Lana, Dakpemana and the Gulkpe – Naa but the entertainment chief installed by the Dakpema claims the traders were trading on an unauthorized centre.

He ordered the soldiers to forcibly eject the hawkers from their new trading centre.

Angered by the order, the traders numbering about thousand pounced on the subchief in the presence of the soldiers and subjected him to massive beatings.

They hit him with metal bowls and sticks until blood cascaded on his cheeks, Illiasu added.

Adom News’ Illiasu Abdul Rauf who was at the scene reported that the angry women pelted Hafiz with metal bowls and sticks until blood started oozing out from his cheeks.

He noted that, many people mostly women were injured in the free for all fight while the soldiers were struggling to rescue the Chief.

More soldiers were quickly deployed to the Central Business District to prevent the traders from causing more havoc.

The angry traders then matched to the Buglana palace and threatened not to stay till the Chief ordered the Mayor, Musah Superior to call the decongestion team to order.

They also called for the immediate removal of the DCE whom they blame for the confusion.

The traders claim Mr. Musah Superior was being ruthless on them because they did not vote for the NPP.

Meanwhile, efforts to get the DCE and authorities of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to react to the matter proved futile.
