Amakye Boateng defends Mahama

-

Political Science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Amakye Boateng has mounted a spirited defense for former President John Mahama over his boot-for-boot comments.

John Mahama while addressing some NDC supporters on a campaign tour in the Volta Region said the NDC could match the governing NPP boot for boot when it comes to violence.

“…the NDC has revolutionary roots and that when it comes to unleashing violence, nobody can beat us in unleashing violence,” Mahama said.

John Mahama has been condemned by many who believe his comment is an affront to his statesmanship.

But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Dr. Amakye Boateng said the former President cannot be blamed.

He explained that, given the enormity of violence which was visited on his party members, John Mahama was only being “reactionary”.

The Political Science lecturer cited how an NDC Member of Parliament was assaulted by the police to buttress his point.

He maintained that, those condemning John Mahama are being hypocritical and economical with the truth.

Dr. Amakye Boateng said the violence in Ayawaso by-election was state sponsored because it was perpetrated by state security.

He feared the NDC might retaliate in the 2020 general elections if government does not create a level playing field for all parties in the elections.
