In the past two months alone, Ghana has witnessed several attempts by its citizens to set new records for the esteemed Guinness World Records.
Among these notable attempts are Afua Asantewaa’s impressive endeavor to break the record for the longest singing marathon (singathon) by an individual, as well as Chef Faila’s determined pursuit in the realm of cooking (cookathon), both of which captured the attention of many Ghanaians.
However, a new contender has emerged on the scene.
Executive Chef, Ebenezer Smith, also known as Millennium Chef, is currently undertaking a cook-a-thon attempt that has not garnered public attention.
Nevertheless, there are intriguing aspects to his endeavor worth noting:
- Executive Chef Ebenezer Smith is nicknamed Millennium Chef.
- His initial attempt to secure approval from the Guinness World Records was in July 2023, but it was unsuccessful.
- He made another attempt in September 2023 and was approved for February 2024.
- The cookathon commenced on February 1, 2024.
- Initially aiming to cook for 360 hours, equivalent to 15 days non-stop, Millennium Chef extended his goal to 1200 hours over 50 days.
- The cookathon is taking place at Amadia Shopping Center on Community 18 Road in Spintex.
- Millennium Chef’s decision to extend the duration of his cookathon was influenced by a similar attempt by Beauty Obasuyi, a Canadian-based Nigerian, who unofficially cooked for 448 hours.
Despite Millennium Chef’s remarkable feat, the lack of widespread attention towards his cookathon has been attributed to concerns that he was attempting to surpass the efforts of a fellow Ghanaian in the same category of world records.
It’s worth noting that the current cook-a-thon record is held by Irishman, Alan Fisher.
