Veteran musician and dancer Slim Buster has revealed that he has not received royalties from the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) for the past 12 years.

The revelation came during his appearance on Hitz FM’s Cruise Control with Mercury Quaye, where he was asked whether he had been enjoying the fruit of his labour.

Despite having a sizeable catalogue from his years in the music industry, he said he has been totally sidelined by the revenue collection agency.

Asked what could account for the lengthy gap, particularly given that he has spent years outside Ghana, Slim Buster said he had been told the issue was connected to changes made to the royalty management system.

He likened the situation to updating a mobile phone. In his view, an update should upgrade an existing system while preserving the information already stored on it. However, he said he was informed that the old system had instead been wiped before the new one was introduced.

According to Slim Buster, the consequence was that artistes affected by the change had to return and register their works again.

He said he was not interested in arguing over the situation, especially when he felt doing so would not resolve the problem.

He joins a long list of entertainers who have questioned the competence of GHAMRO.
