The Tafo Circuit Court has remanded a 49-year-old driver, Clement Ofori, into police custody following a road crash at Krofrom in the Ashanti Region that claimed one life and left several others injured.
Ofori was arrested after the DAF trailer truck he was driving, with registration number GR 5404-13, crashed into several vehicles while carrying a 40-foot container loaded with transit goods from Tema to Burkina Faso.
The prosecution told the court that the incident occurred when the truck developed a brake fault while descending towards Tafo-Nhyiaeso.
The mechanical failure allegedly left Ofori unable to maintain control of the vehicle, resulting in the truck crashing into six vehicles, a tricycle and a motorbike on both lanes of the road.
Some roadside shops were also reportedly damaged in the process.
A 20-year-old pillion rider on the motorbike, identified as Atta Junior, died in the accident.
Several other victims sustained various degrees of injury and were transported to the Tafo Government Hospital and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
The deceased’s body has been deposited at the Tafo Ebenezer Mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination.
Ofori was subsequently arrested by the Tafo-Pakrono Divisional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service and brought before the Tafo Circuit Court on Friday, September 11, 2026.
Prosecutors said investigations were still underway and the police required additional time to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
Presiding judge, His Honour Festus Fovi Nukunu, subsequently remanded Ofori into police custody to reappear before the court on September 25, 2026.
