The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has intensified fire safety education across the Ashanti Region as part of efforts to prevent fire outbreaks and protect lives and property.
The exercise has seen fire officers engage church members, fuel station staff, homeowners, tenants and schoolchildren on fire prevention, safety measures and emergency preparedness.
At the SDA Church Annual Camp Meeting in Juansa, officers from the Agogo Fire Station educated participants on hazard identification, electrical safety, good housekeeping and the dangers associated with overloaded extension cords and worn-out electrical outlets.
The participants were also given practical training on the proper use of fire extinguishers to enable them to respond effectively to fire emergencies.
At Akom, the Boamang Fire Command engaged staff of Shell Fuel Station on fuel station safety, electrical and gas safety, fire classifications, firefighting techniques and procedures for contacting the GNFS during emergencies.
The Asokore Mampong Municipal Fire Command also sensitised homeowners and tenants on the safe handling of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), proper housekeeping and the correct use of fire extinguishers.
Landlords were further urged to ensure that their properties comply with fire safety requirements to minimise the risk of fire incidents.
In another outreach programme, the Boamang Fire Command educated more than 1,200 Sunday School children and teachers of the Methodist Church Ghana, Kumasi North Diocese.
The session covered electrical and gas safety, fire classifications, the PASS method of using fire extinguishers and the functions of the GNFS.
The Service said the engagements form part of its ongoing public education programmes aimed at strengthening fire safety awareness and equipping communities with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to fire emergencies.
The GNFS has encouraged the public to adopt safe practices and remain vigilant to help reduce fire incidents across the region.
