Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak says 26 suspects have so far been arraigned in connection with election-related violence recorded during the 2020 and 2024 general elections.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series, the Minister said one of the 26 suspects has since been discharged, while the remaining 25 are currently facing trial.
He added that the police are still pursuing 13 other suspects who have been identified in connection with the various incidents but remain at large.
Mr Muntaka assured that efforts were underway to arrest the outstanding suspects and support the prosecution of those already before the courts.
“The public will be duly informed of further developments as investigations and prosecution progress, and the police are also hoping that members of the public who have information on all these other 13 persons being pursued will be most welcome to provide that additional information,” he said.
The Minister said the cases form part of investigations launched following President John Dramani Mahama’s directive for a comprehensive probe into election-related violence recorded during the 2020 and 2024 polls.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that anyone found culpable is made to face the law.
Mr Muntaka also appealed to the public to provide credible information that could assist the police in locating the remaining suspects.
