The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, says the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service is finalising a report on investigations into alleged assassination attempts against Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, August 24, Mr Muntaka said he had recently engaged the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to seek an update on the case.
According to the Minister, the IGP informed him that the CID was working on the report, which would be made public once completed and submitted.
“They promised that they are coming up with a report, so I’m sure once they bring the report, we’ll let it be public because I wrote officially demanding that they investigate and report. He promised that they are working at it, so I will pursue that too,” he said.
Mr Muntaka assured that he would continue engaging the police to ensure the investigation is concluded and the report submitted.
The Interior Ministry ordered the investigation in 2025 following allegations that the Special Prosecutor had survived two assassination attempts.
The claims were first made publicly by the OSP’s Director of Strategy, Research and Communications, Samuel Appiah Darko, during an appearance on Newsfile in Accra on December 6. He alleged that Mr Agyebeng had been targeted in two separate failed assassination attempts while carrying out his official duties.
The latest update from the Interior Minister comes as authorities await the police report to establish the findings of the investigation and clarify the circumstances surrounding the alleged threats.
