Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang will represent President John Dramani Mahama at the inaugural Africa Mindset Reset Forum, scheduled for August 25 and 26, 2026, in Kigali, Rwanda.
The two-day forum, which will be held at the Kigali Convention Centre, is being organised by the African School of Governance (ASG) and is expected to bring together about 1,000 leaders from Africa and beyond.
Approximately 80 percent of participants are expected to be young people and emerging leaders.
Among the prominent figures expected at the forum are former South African President Thabo Mbeki, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and Vice President Opoku-Agyemang.
Other participants include former Gambian Vice President Fatoumata Jallow-Tambajang, known for her work in promoting women’s and youth rights, democratic governance and peacebuilding, as well as Monica Geingos, widow of former Namibian President Hage Geingob.
The forum is being held under the theme, “From Pan-Africanism to Meta-Africanism.”
According to the organisers, the gathering seeks to open a new chapter in Africa’s development by moving beyond the traditional emphasis on political unity and independence towards building strong institutions, developing homegrown solutions and implementing programmes that deliver tangible results.
On the first day, former President Thabo Mbeki is expected to deliver a keynote address on the vision of Meta-Africanism.
President Paul Kagame, one of the founders of the African School of Governance, will join Vice President Opoku-Agyemang and former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn for a discussion on translating the objectives of African unity into concrete action.
Discussions on the second day will focus on African ownership and management of the continent’s natural resources, as well as people-centred development.
Key strategies expected to be highlighted include facilitating movement across Africa, establishing a single African air transport market and creating an African institution to assess the creditworthiness of African countries.
The ASG says the forum is designed not simply to revisit Africa’s longstanding challenges but to showcase solutions already delivering results, connect the people implementing those solutions and shift the continent from rhetoric to action.
The Africa Mindset Reset Forum is being held for the first time this year and is built around seven transformations intended to reshape how Africa approaches its development.
The broader objective is to encourage a new generation of African leaders to take ownership of the continent’s development and translate the ideals of Pan-Africanism into practical and measurable outcomes.
