Churches and mission schools have been urged to reclaim their traditional role in instilling discipline, integrity and strong moral values in young people to help address growing indiscipline in Ghanaian society.
The call comes amid increasing concerns over misconduct in educational institutions and its impact on national development.
Speaking at the 10th Conference and Anniversary of the Conference of Heads of Evangelical Presbyterian Schools (COHCEPS) at Ho Mawuli Senior High School, the Director-General of the Ghana TVET Service, Dr. Eric Kofi Adzroe, who delivered the keynote address, stressed the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in transforming the country’s workforce.
In an interview with Adom News correspondent Odehyeba Owusu Job, Dr. Adzroe said mission schools, which have historically played a vital role in Ghana’s education system, should work closely with the government to produce young people who are not only equipped with employable skills but also grounded in discipline and sound moral values.
He noted that the rising cases of indiscipline in society, including road traffic offences, corruption and environmental degradation, point to shortcomings in the country’s approach to educating and nurturing young people.
Dr. Adzroe therefore called for a comprehensive review of the education system, urging churches and mission institutions to reassess their role and collaborate with government to tackle the growing challenge of indiscipline.
He maintained that strengthening TVET alongside character and values-based education would help produce responsible citizens, a skilled workforce and future leaders capable of driving national development.
Dr. Adzroe further urged mission schools to lead by example by upholding high standards of discipline and serving as models for other educational institutions across the country.
