Ghanaian sprinters Joseph Paul Amoah, Edwin Gadayi and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu have all qualified for the semi-finals of the men’s 100 metres at the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra.
The trio impressed during the evening session on the opening day of competition at the University of Ghana Stadium, with each athlete finishing second in their respective heats to advance to the next stage.
Edwin Gadayi was the first Ghanaian athlete on track on Tuesday, May 12, placing second behind Zimbabwe’s Mathembe Tshuma in his heat.
Joseph Paul Amoah also secured his semi-final spot after finishing second in Heat 5 behind Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme.
Abdul-Rasheed Saminu completed Ghana’s clean sweep of semi-final qualification by placing second in Heat 7, with Nigeria’s Chidera Ezeakor finishing first in that race.
With all three Ghanaian sprinters progressing, attention now turns to the semi-finals scheduled for 18:30 GMT, where Gadayi, Amoah and Saminu will compete for places in the final of the blue-riband event.
