All four presidential aspirants who contested in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) January 2026 primary have been appointed as co-chairmen of newly created policy committees aimed at shaping the party’s direction ahead of the next general election.

The move by the party’s flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, is being viewed as a strategic effort to unite the party and project a sense of cohesion within the NPP.

Dr. Bawumia is seeking to establish what his office describes as a structured and data-driven policy framework that will help the party develop practical alternatives across key sectors of the economy and governance.

According to the flagbearer’s office, the goal is to position the NPP not just as an opposition party, but as “a government-in-waiting” capable of presenting credible and evidence-based solutions to national challenges.

At the centre of the new structure is the NPP Policy Committee, which will be chaired by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, former Minister for Works and Housing and Information, as well as Member of Parliament.

Serving as Secretary to the Committee is Kwasi Nyame-Baafi, whose appointment is expected to strengthen the committee’s technical and administrative work.

The committee will supervise several sector-specific policy groups covering areas such as employment, energy, decentralisation, roads and transport, education, health, the economy, land and natural resources, among others.

Each group is expected to conduct independent research, engage experts and stakeholders, and develop policy alternatives backed by data for review by the flagbearer.

According to Dr. Bawumia’s office, the initiative is part of efforts to move the party away from “reactive opposition politics” towards a more proactive and solution-oriented approach.

“Dr. Bawumia wants a party that doesn’t just criticise; he wants a party that can present Ghanaians with a clear, costed, and credible alternative at any point in time,” the office indicated.

As part of the appointments, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has been named Co-Chairman of the Employment and Jobs Policy Committee, an area closely linked to his long-standing advocacy for entrepreneurship and private sector-led job creation.

Former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong will serve as Co-Chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Policy Committee.

Meanwhile, former Agriculture and Interior Minister Bryan Acheampong has been appointed Co-Chairman of the Defence and Interior Policy Committee, reflecting his experience in the security sector.

Former Education Minister Yaw Osei Adutwum completes the quartet as Co-Chairman of the Education Policy Committee, bringing his experience in educational reforms and policy innovation to the role.
