The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has dismissed reports suggesting that Ghana’s new Black Stars head coach, Carlos Queiroz, earns as much as $100,000 per month.
According to him, the figures circulating in sections of the media are inaccurate, stressing that the Portuguese tactician’s actual monthly remuneration is below the reported amount.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, the Buem MP rejected the claims and indicated that the full details of the coach’s contract will be made public before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Carlos Queiroz is being paid less than $100,000; his salary is not up to the $100,000 being quoted out there,” he said.
“The actual salary and details will be revealed later, before the World Cup. He was signed on a four-month contract,” Mr Adams added.
Queiroz, who replaced Otto Addo on a short-term deal following Ghana’s underwhelming run in the World Cup qualifiers, was officially unveiled in Accra last week.
The experienced Portuguese coach has already begun work, travelling to Europe on a scouting mission to assess Ghanaian players ahead of the tournament.
Ghana, making their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
