The Director of Field Operations for the United Party, Hopeson Adorye, has stated that the current power outages being experienced across the country should not be described as “dumsor.”
Speaking on the AM Show on JoyNews, he explained that the term “dumsor” historically referred to prolonged and predictable power cuts.
According to him, during the period widely described as dumsor, electricity outages were often scheduled and, in some cases, lasted for several days.
“We cannot describe this situation as dumsor because dumsor was when you could predict outages and sometimes stay without light for two or three days,” he said.
Mr. Adorye noted that the current outages are largely linked to maintenance works, particularly the replacement of weak and overloaded transformers.
He explained that in such situations, power must be temporarily switched off to allow for the necessary upgrades to be carried out.
He expressed support for the ongoing efforts, stating that the maintenance works are necessary to improve the stability of the power supply.
