Former Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has raised concerns about how the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) intends to finance its proposed programmes outlined by its Managing Director.

Speaking on Badwam on Adom TV, he questioned the source of funding for the initiatives, noting that a recent press release detailed a phased programme expected to cost over GH₵3 billion.

According to him, while the outlined plans may be necessary, there is little clarity on how the company intends to mobilise the required funds.

He stressed that this is a critical gap in communication, adding that he expected both the Managing Director and the Communications Director of ECG to address the funding concerns.

Mr Egyapa Mercer further pointed out that much of ECG’s current revenue is already committed to operational costs, including the payment of salaries.

He therefore questioned how the company plans to raise such a significant amount without clearly stating its funding strategy.

He emphasised the need for transparency, urging ECG to clearly communicate how it intends to finance the programme and whether government will be involved.

“They’ve outlined programmes worth over GH₵3 billion, but the key question is, where will ECG get the money from?” he questioned.
