Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania have intensified preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with organisers emphasising that the tournament must deliver a meaningful and lasting legacy across the region.

The three East African nations will jointly stage the continental showpiece under the “PAMOJA AFCON” brand and are currently holding a high-level two-day workshop in Kampala.

The meeting brings together football federation officials, government representatives and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The workshop, attended by a CAF delegation led by Acting Secretary General Samson Adamu, is reviewing progress on preparations while addressing key operational challenges.

Discussions are focused on ensuring all host nations remain on track to deliver a successful tournament on schedule.

Uganda’s Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to the project.

“On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Uganda and on my own behalf, I reaffirm our commitment to host AFCON in 2027 in line with the agreement,” he said.

“I assure you that the three governments are committed to providing the resources required to ensure this tournament takes place as scheduled.”

Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed underscored the broader significance of the event, stressing the importance of what remains after the final whistle.

“What happens after 2027 will define us. The legacy we leave behind for future generations will be critical,” he said.

“This requires sacrifice, longer hours and commitment beyond personal interests.”

The Kampala workshop is expected to produce concrete measures to strengthen coordination among the three host nations as they push forward with preparations for one of Africa’s most ambitious sporting events.
