Police in Kumasi have arrested a 48-year-old businessman for allegedly killing his girlfriend in what police say was a domestic violence case.

Francis Arthur is accused of beating to death his girlfriend, Sally Benson, a popular Kumasi-based beautician whom he had dated for over 10 years, at Ayigya-Maxima in Kumasi following a misunderstanding.

The incident occurred on April 14, 2026.

Police say the deceased, in the company of a female friend, rushed to the Ayigya residence of the suspect upon hearing that his baby mama was visiting him.

But the deceased met the absence of the suspect, who had stepped out of the house.

While waiting in the company of the friend, Arthur arrived, only to be confronted by Sally.

According to Chief Inspector Samuel Agyare, it was during the altercation that Arthur allegedly hit the deceased several times.

She fell into an unconscious state, prompting a response from Arthur to drive his girlfriend in the latter’s car to the KNUST Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to him, police, upon further inspection, found marks of assault on the neck and chest of the deceased.

Arthur made his maiden court appearance before Her Worship Hilda Esther Wryter at the Asokore Mampong District Court on Tuesday, where he was remanded to reappear on May 8, 2026.

Relatives of Sally Benson were in court when the case was called for the first time.

The death of the owner of Sally’s Cosmetics Studio and African’s Special Pub at the Asokwa neighbourhood has sent shockwaves through the family and all those who are familiar with her.

Father of the deceased, Apostle Gabriel Oppong, in an interview expressed shock at her death and alleged a relationship between the deceased and the suspect.

“Sally’s friend has made us know and understand everything. It’s Francis Arthur, a boyfriend which we, I don’t know personally,” he said.

“Sally’s friend has made us know and understand everything. This is the one Sally went to because this boyfriend of hers, whom she has been staying or like being in a relationship with behind the scene for about almost 10 years.

Sally got the news that or the information that a lady has come to this man, so she went there. Upon getting there, they were waiting for the man because he wasn’t around. And when the man finally came, and Sally confronted him with the question that ‘Is it true there’s someone there like that?’ This is where it generated a heated argument.

And according to the girl, the man beat Sally till at a point Sally just fell. While she fell, this is where they started pouring water on her. They rushed her to Tech Hospital, then upon arrival, they already said she had already died. Just like that, you’ve killed my daughter.”

Apostle Oppong wants justice for his departed daughter.

“I want justice. We are all in a nation and then it is governed by law. That’s why we don’t put the laws in our own hands. In cases like this, I know there is a particular way the law treats it and what the law says about it. And this is what I want for my daughter and the family.

In fact, she’s too young and… uh… this is what I can say. May the government of Ghana make the laws work for us? You can’t kill my daughter. And you see, it means the family… the side of the mother’s side has cut off because the mother is late and she’s the only daughter and you too have come to kill her for us. How? May justice prevail”

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
